DAFs are composed of polypropylene. This lightweight material is impervious to corrosion and is highly resistant to chemicals. This allows the DAF to deal with a diverse temperature range, pH and saltwater. It also dissolves a high volume of solids. It can be used in UV-stabilized environments.

The modern pipe flocculator has become an essential component of any DAF. It allows chemicals to be integrated into the stream quicker and helps reduce the size of the emulsion.

The pump for generating dissolved air is also central to helping the DAF function. The pump moves air inside the water. The air bubbles bind to garbage particles, then floating to the surface. Particles that are too heavy to flotation sink to cones for discharge.

The solid waste floating on the surface is taken away with a rake. Meanwhile, things that are accumulated within the cones is removed. After the sludge was removed, it is sent into storage by pump.

Once the water has been filtered, it is now available for use in the DAF.
